ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH TO ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM?
WHATEVER YOU WANT YOU CAN HAVE IF YOU CAN CLIMB THE TOWER.
WILL YOU TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU TO THE TOP, OR WILL YOU KILL EVERYONE IN YOUR WAY TO GET TO VICTORY?

Yes that's right TOGTB is in a (somewhat) playable state.
Climbing to the 134th floor isn't easy and if your character dies you have to wait for everyone to die to continue.

July 18th Update[]

  • TB Update released.
  • This update was deemed very intrusive and complicated to fit into ETB.
  • Originally the system was from a similar tabletop game.
  • Changelog:

Faction Reworks
Factions are now changed to Allegiances
- Person or Group: This includes a leader or superior, a family, a group of linked individuals (such as a band of adventurers or a cell of secret agents), or a discrete unit within a larger organization (such as members of the character’s squad or platoon, or individuals whose safety the character is responsible for).
- Organization: This may be a company or corporation, a gathering of like-minded individuals, a fraternal brotherhood, a secret society, a branch of the armed forces, a local, state, or national government, a university, an employer, or an otherwise established authority.
- Nation: This may or may not be the nation that the hero currently resides in. It may be where the individual was born, or where the hero resides after emigrating to a new home.
- Belief System: This is usually a particular faith or religion, but can also be a specific philosophy or school of thought. Belief systems could also include political beliefs or philosophical outlooks.
- Ethical Philosophy: This describes how one feels about order, as represented by law and chaos. An individual with a lawful outlook tends to tell the truth, keep his or her word, respect authority, and honor tradition, and he or she expects others to do likewise. An individual with a chaotic outlook tends to follow his or her instincts and whims, favor new ideas and experiences, and behave in a subjective and open manner in dealings with others.
- Moral Philosophy: This describes one’s attitude toward others, as represented by good and evil. An individual with a good allegiance tends to protect innocent life. This belief implies altruism, respect for life, and a concern for the dignity of other creatures. An evil allegiance shows a willingness to hurt, oppress, and kill others, and to debase or destroy innocent life.

Characters are allowed a maximum of 3 allegiances. They can be conflicting but must be ordered most important to least important allegiances. If you act against or opposite of your allegiances they will be stripped of your character by your host.

2016[]

September 1st Update[]

  • Fantasy Text Based and Medieval are now removed from the game.
  • The reason being is that there is a new mode to replace it.
  • Since nobody shuts the fuck up about it being called Exorcist Text Based. We are changing the name of Fantasy/Medieval TB.
  • Exorcist Text Based (ETB) -> Adventure Text Based (ATB)
  • Medieval/Fantasy/Exorcist will now be ATB
  • Modern will be MTB
  • Minecraft will be MCTB
  • Future will be FTB from now on.
  • Any references to the engine or base of the game will still be referred to as ETB however.
  • Adventure Text Based is an entirely new angle of approach to ETB and will work in a more linear fashion.
  • ATB 'Changelog':
  • Instead of the giant open pathways that MTB and FTB will continue to hold, ATB will have an active threat in the world.

The time and event of each playthrough will be random and will play through as a historic time travel scenario.

Meta gaming in ATB is allowed.

This is an experimental change and might be reverted at a later date.

The events will be nearly world ending or substaintial enough to warrent a grand quest or dare I say it; adventure.

The events avalible are currently all Demon Invasions up to the 7th during the peak of Ayumi, The Lich's Ravage of the South, The Necromancer Scourge of Haven, The Fallen Angel Revolution and The Dragon Queen.

You will not be able to choose your own stats when you start nor will you be able to manually choose which ones level up.

They will be given to you automatically and your actions will dictate how they level.

You will be given a random class and background for your character also, once you begin to level up you will be given new and different class choices.

Skills are handled the same way as usual.

Races will be also be choosen based on background.

If one of your characters is an Elf you will also be able to jump all the way back to The Fall of the Elven Kingdom.

Also when character creation starts you can choose to allow TB Codex Events.

These include:

The Fall of the Elven Kingdom

The Forming of Britannia

The Scatters of Magic

The Decent of Angels

Rise of the Hordes

Red Snow Fall of the Mighty

Rise of Necromancy

The Stories of the Horsemen

Rise of the Apocasi

Yumi the White Angel

Dragon Slayers Formation

The Sand Dunes of the Immortals

The Traitor (The Days Before The Shard Incident)

The Legend of the Ethnie

The Old Champion (Bloodking Upbringing)

Character personality and traits can either be random or up to player's choice.

If you want to try your luck with a hopeless assortment of personality or make your own dust knight it is up to you.

Inventory and Money is random depending on your backstory.

Instead of a specific age please pick between Child, Teenager, Young Adult, Adult, Elder since races are random.

You can also pick your preferred gender or leave it random.

First names will be left up to characters but last names and families will be dealt with by the engine.

Some races not exist if the event hasn't gone off yet.

For example Northerners aren't avalible until Red Snow triggers.

Angels cannot be played until Decent of Angels and etc.

Eating, Sleeping, Drinking, etc are all needed.

Being hygenic and having clean clothes isn't needed but people don't really enjoy the hobo looking adventurer.

Equipment will break and armour will be destroyed through use and damage.

Mana doesn't exist anymore technically.

It will directly drain stamina.

It still uses wisdom to determine the amount however

If you overuse your stamina you will collapse.

Titles no longer are just achievement related.

Guilds in the world will now give out titles and so can nobles or other influential guilds.

Khajhu the Swift will be able to get his +5 Agility without needing a fancy non-existing achievement.

This means the sneaky player can buy a title from a noble.

Sir Barnaby can earn his +10 Charisma the cheap way.

The different age groups all have downsides and upsides.

Young ones learn quickly and are usually a lucky bunch.

Elders have better skills, stats and equipment.

It will also be assumed for now that you are all either born or live in the same town/city.

You can join any of the many guilds of the world, merchants, thieves, assassins, hunters, mercanaries, adventurers, mages, etc.

These guilds give great access to a network of other members, quests and rewards.

Charisma is also now split

Charm is physical attraction and Charisma will now be vocal.

The more charm the better looking and well... charming you'll be to others.

You'll also need these two skills to be able to run a guild or party.

Guilds run on a ranking system like most rpgs.

Starting from an E rank all the way to an SSS

Completing quests, missions and levelling up will allow you to rank up.

The more you rank up the more quests and rewards will become avalible to you.

Most guilds are populated by mainly D or C ranks.

A is the hall of fame and S and above are top tier heroes/champions/~fuckbois~/etc

Remember that there will be many other adventurers trying to save the world and levelling up, the world won't rest while your character is lazing about.

The 7th Demon Invasion will be the shortest event and means you'll have to either stop or delay Ayumi if you want to stand a chance at fame.

September 2nd Update[]

  • The Stat System was updated alongside ATB.
  • Update Changelog:
  • We are revisiting stats for ATB.

Since direct player interaction will be much lower than previous iterations I think it has finally been time to do a couple of edits and add a few entries that were needed previously.

This current patch has 13 stats and there might be another one coming later but I haven't yet decided if it is worth complicating the system more than it is.

ATB and TB in general is not a simple game by any means, a simple mistake in how you phrase an action could end up killing you and all 7 of your party members in a second.

It is a game that requires thought and being able to think many turns ahead while also being aware of what your teammates are doing.

Due to this I'm not afraid to make the less visited sections of the game more advanced to keep up with this pace.

Players do not have the abilities to change their stats this time round and don't have much of a hand creating their own beginning stats and instead will be given them randomly.

I'll begin by going down the list so you can understand how each stat affects your character.

Keep in mind stat changes are affected by your actions in game, so even with an undesirable stat pool you can completely change your class and type of character with work.

VITALITY - You might now this more as Constitution depending on when you played ETB the most. This is your characters main stat that determines your health. The more Vitality the more damage you can take before dying and dissapointing your team. This also is your characters general physical health as well, not eating/sleeping/drinking reguarly will lower this stat over time. Tanks and damage soakers need to make sure to look after their characters health since dropping 33%~ of your Vitality stat could mean being a liability rather than a useful teammate.

The more vitality the longer you can go without the general health needs and how much flat physical damage you can take.

ENDURANCE - This is the updated version of Defense and is currently a mixture between that and borrows a couple of ideas from Vitality/Constitution. Most importantly to begin with, this is your main stat affecting stamina. Being able to run around and fight for a long time requires at least some focus into this stat. It's other focus is being a defensive stat that affects how much damage actually does to you, having a high endurance could be the difference between losing an arm or having it stop at your bone. Poisons and dieseases are also affected by your Endurance. Low endurance could turn a fever into a serious illness in you are unlucky.

STRENGTH - Punching, kicking, lifting, swinging and anything else that requires force is where strength comes in. How much force you can exert and how much damage you can do physically is dependant on your strength which you could imagine as the muscles of your stat pool. Brawlers, knights, warriors, barbarians, duelists and any one hoping to be in the face of the enemy better have this stat as one of their aces.

PERCEPTION - TB is text based, duh. This means that unlike other games where your own perception is the importance between finding a hidden crack in a wall or being able to solve a puzzle in front of you. Higher Perception means your character will be able to relay to you more detail and have a longer view distance. All of your senses rely on Perception, hearing a quite footstep at night or being able to smell smoke from a long distance are what any scout or assassin characters will need.

AGILITY - Being able to do something with haste and doing it before anyone else is a key factor between dodging a sword or having to live with half a head. Agility will mean you can run faster, punch faster and doing most actions quicker. Probably the most simple to understand stat out of them all.

DEXTERITY - This skill has always caused confusion for a few people and needs to be explained each time it comes up so hopefully this can clear all that up. Dexterity is your actual skill using your body, being fast doesn't mean as much in a sword fight if you aren't able to make sure your wielding of the weapon is up to par. Clumsy characters and ditzy characters who have low stats in this area are the type to drop their equipment in key moments and wouldn't be able to fire a bow or gun to save their life.

CHARISMA - Me speak good. Charisma is useful in all interactions that require vocal interaction, including spells, singing, talking, interrogation, lying and anything else related to speaking. It can turn your subpar speaking into something eloquante or make your words have a lot more threat or meaning than you could even follow up on. If you are the type to be constantly gathering information or having to play diplomat to get out of sticky situation this a must for you.

CHARM - Good looks can get you almost anywhere if you can follow it up properly. Being physically attractive doesn't seem like a stat that requires immediate attention or even a consideration but it shouldn't be overlooked. This used to be apart of Charisma previously but that didn't make much sense. You could be handsome or beautiful but talk like an absolute idiot. If you plan on flattering an important person or trying to hit on your boss for a pay rise it doesn't matter how good of a silver tongue you've got if you have Shovelface (A most terrible disease that will affect this stat heavily).

LUCK - Coin flips, percent chances, dice rolls and wishing for divine intervention. High luck characters are more favoured by Fate. Luck is a simple skill that just gives you a higher chance for better things to happen and less chance for shit to come your way. It doesn't mean bad things don't happen just that they won't happen as much as they do to your teammates. Finding a random chest with legendary loot, happening to find a pouch full of gold or gambling all come down to Luck. It helps in every walk of life but not as largely as other stats.

INTELLIGENCE - Having a high IQ and being able to learn skills and abilities quickly come down to how Intelligent you character is. This stat affects how effective your magic is and how quickly you'll be able to learn new spells. For detective and inquisitive types you'll need this stat to be able to make deductions. If your character has high Intelligence don't feel worried to ask them on what their opinion on the situation is, they might be able to save you from a sticky situation. You can also ask a low Intelligence character on their opinion too, just don't be surprised.

WISDOM - Ah Wisdom... The least cared about skill in the game by a large margain. Which has a fair reason why due to how little use it has to the majority of character builds explored in the last 3 years. Wisdom has been constantly buffed over the years to have more use and now we've reached a crossroads on what it is to become in the future. First change is that it no longer gives you mental resistance or affect sanity levels. Now before you preach that it is now finally dead and every character can have 1 Wisdom let me continue. Second change is that fully affects your magical use, mana has been removed in the game and now fully affects your stamina. Having a higher Wisdom means you can cast more spells before losing control of your body, passing out or dying. It also affects your memory and how many skills you can actually remember. Jack of all trades won't be able to have 50 skills if they only have the Wisdom to remember how to do 10 of them.

WILLPOWER - Wisdom's nearly aborted twin. Willpower is your sanity, your mental fortitude and anything else that affects your characters personality or atittude. Having a high willpower is important if you plan on ripping through hundreads of people without remorse. THIS STAT WILL CONSTANTLY DEPLETE. Even with 20 Willpower the stat will drop everytime you stomp a child's head in, everytime you cut a man in half or you witness a mass grave. Unless your character has a character trait negating Willpower like Fearless, Psychotic, Sociopathic or anything else in the same vein you will need to make sure to icnrease you Willpower. Peaceful breaks, nice scenary, talking to other normally and things that allow your character to relax will be very important especially if you act like a serial killer.

MORALITY - Ayyyy, its back. The poster boy of ETB for a year before it was removed in a patch without any news about it happening or if it would ever return to play a part in the game again. Yes it will still be used as a requirement for certain classes, you can't change from Knight to Dark Knight if you are a champion of all that right and good. It will also affect your next character. Morality isn't passed on to every character but will always affect the next time your soul passes on to another body. Having neutral, evil or good morality all have their own advantdges and disadvantdges. I will not be commenting on what they are and I'll leave it up to players to experiment and find out for themselves.

This is the roundup of all the changes to stats for now. Anything else changes and I'll put it in changelog like everything else.
